Job Summary We are looking for a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician/Medical Technologist to perform routine and special laboratory tests with a focus on accuracy, quality control, and compliance with safety protocols. This role involves performing a variety of laboratory functions, from test analysis to equipment maintenance, while ensuring that results are accurately reported and communicated to healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
• Laboratory Testing:
• Perform routine and special tests in hematology, chemistry, serology, blood bank, urinalysis, bacteriology, parasitology, and coagulation.
• Assist with bone marrow and fine needle aspirate procedures.
• Recognize test inconsistencies and take corrective actions, seeking help from senior staff when necessary.
• Communicate critical test results promptly to physicians or nurses.
• Quality Control & Calibration:
• Run quality control tests and maintain accurate records.
• Take corrective action when quality control results fall outside acceptable limits.
• Perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot lab instruments.
• Document actions taken to resolve issues and report unresolved problems to the Director.
• General Laboratory Support:
• Perform specimen collection and processing as needed.
• Support the operation of the clinical lab in the absence of the Director.
• Ensure safety, cleanliness, and efficient operation of the laboratory.
• Assist in inventory control and supply requisition.
• Participate in quality assurance activities.
• Cover emergency call as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Laboratory Services.
Competencies
• Strong understanding of laboratory equipment, procedures, and techniques.
• Basic knowledge of various specialty laboratory fields (e.g., blood typing, testing, cross-matching).
• Familiar with anatomy, physics, and principles of equipment operation.
• Ability to handle and send specimens to reference labs.
• Strong communication skills and patient care knowledge.
Qualifications
• Education:
• Minimum of an associate’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science.
• ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized certification preferred.
• Categorical certification will restrict the individual to the discipline in which the certification is held.
