About the Role:

The Lead Medical Assistant role is primarily responsible for leading the medical assistants in an office location and assisting doctors and other medical personnel with administrative and clerical work by performing the following duties.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Staff Management and Coordination:
    • Manage staff attendance, including PTO and call outs, and ensure appropriate coverage.
    • Delegate tasks and ensure completion in a timely manner.
    • Provide training and support to new employees.
  • Administrative Responsibilities:
    • Order necessary supplies and vaccines.
    • Monitor vaccine inventory weekly.
    • Handle voicemails and faxes promptly.
  • Medical Equipment Management:
    • Ensure all medical equipment is calibrated and in working order.
    • Coordinate maintenance and repairs as necessary.
    • Check vaccine refrigerator temperature and medications for expirations weekly.
  • Patient Interaction and Care:
    • Address patient complaints and concerns effectively.
    • Take and record vital signs accurately.
    • Perform routine laboratory tests and administer treatments as needed.
  • Data Management and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate medical charts, reports, and correspondence.
    • Handle prior authorizations and insurance inquiries.
    • Respond to all web, telephone and other eCW needs within two business days.
    • Link diagnostic imaging with orders and track as required.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Assist in maintaining PCMH standards and quality measures.
    • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide coverage for staff absences when necessary.
  • Float to other office locations as needed.
  • Assist colleagues as needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with both customers and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and interpreting documents and instructions.
  • Ability to problem-solve and adapt to changing situations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The employee must be able to sit for extended periods and use hands for various tasks.
  • Occasional standing and walking may be required.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds.
  • Work environment is typically moderate in noise level.

FLSA: Non- Exempt

Education/Experience (Minimum Requirements):

  • Two plus years of hands-on experience in the medical field.
  • Proficient in medical terminology.
  • Previous management experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Completion of a one-year certificate program from a college or technical school; or a minimum of two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook), and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.

Must be bi-lingual in Spanish

Work Location: In Office at Chevy Chase, MD

Work hours: M-F 8AM-4:30PM

Medical Clearance:


You must complete Comprehensive Primary Cares medical clearance requirements, which include, but may not be limited to, evidence of Hepatitis B, Pneumococcal screen, and a Tuberculosis screen, or have an approved medical or religious accommodation that precludes you from being vaccinated against these diseases.
