Job Description
The Direct Tax Manager will be responsible for overseeing the organization's direct tax compliance and planning activities in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and provincial tax regulations, managing tax risks, and optimizing the company's tax position. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in direct tax matters, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex tax issues effectively.
The Direct Tax Manager will report to the Corporate Controller in Cranberry Township, PA. This is a hybrid position.
Key Responsibilities: - Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local income tax returns in the U.S., as well as provincial and federal tax returns in Canada, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Manage the direct tax provision process, including the calculation of current and deferred tax liabilities in accordance with GAAP for both jurisdictions.
- Conduct tax research and analysis to support tax planning initiatives and provide guidance on tax implications of business decisions in the U.S. and Canada.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation in both countries and assess their impact on the organization, providing recommendations for compliance and strategic planning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, accounting, and legal, to ensure alignment on tax strategies and compliance efforts across the U.S. and Canada.
- Prepare and review tax-related documentation, including transfer pricing studies and tax disclosures for financial statements, ensuring compliance with both U.S. and Canadian requirements.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and auditors in Company's jurisdictions, coordinating responses to inquiries and ensuring timely resolution of tax issues.
- Develop and implement direct tax policies and procedures to enhance compliance and efficiency in tax operations.
- Provide training and support to internal stakeholders on direct tax matters and compliance requirements specific to both countries.
- Lead and mentor the direct tax team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or JD preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in direct tax compliance and planning, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of direct tax in the U.S. and GST/HST, as well as provincial sales taxes in Canada.
- Proficient in tax software and financial modeling tools
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
